“One misdiagnosis nearly changed everything. The truth? Mold toxicity — and the path to healing it — completely changed my life.”
I jumped off of the examination table and hugged Dr. Shoemaker. He tensed up, jumped back, and clearly his hippocampus sounded some sort of “alert” to his entire body. Stiff as a statue he managed to mutter, “what are you doing?”
“Hugging you.”
“Why?”
“Because you told me I don’t have Parkinsons. I have mold toxicity.”
He relaxed and the whole thing suddenly made sense. My instincts, the voice inside my head, the hard resistance my mind put up to everyone who wanted to medicate me, and the insane journey that led me to Pocomoke City, Maryland (if you need directions, you fly to Baltimore, rent a car, drive to the middle of nowhere, and keep going).
That moment, that “different” diagnosis, that “you don’t have this you have that” experience was the most pivotal life-altering alternate-universe jumping shift of my entire life.
The reason the words “mold toxicity” lit me up was a simple one. It was fixable! Reversible. In a sense I could trigger an Undo sending little pesky mycotoxins that found their way into my body and nervous system out of my ecosystem and once again restore health, vitality, and balance. It was that experience that took me from being “a fitness guy” to become “a healer.”
In Greek Mythology, Chiron, the wounded healer, became a great teacher and guide not despite his wounds, but because of them.
And I began to understand that what I went through — the misdiagnosis, the fear, the brain fog, the shaking hands, the desperate search for answers, was an initiation.
Thank God, after a short course of directed non-invasive treatment, I was able to bounce back, but in the months that followed I realized I was different. The entire experience, from Hurricane Wilma (which blew the roof of my office and resulted in mold entering my body) to the Shoemaker hug, I had a very real sense that I was being called, being transformed into who I was meant to be.
That moment in Pocomoke didn’t just give me a new diagnosis — it gave me a new direction. One that would lead me to decode what healing really means. Not just the absence of symptoms, but the presence of power. Not just the end of pain, but the awakening of purpose.
I share this with you now because I counted. Since I took on a new path, dug my heels into becoming what people have referred to as a Medical Fitness Pioneer, since recognizing the innate power we humans have to reverse chronic disease when we understand the source, I’ve helped 175 people recover from mold toxicity, and most of them, when we met, came with an erroneous diagnosis. They were told by their doctors they had conditions ranging from MS to ALS, from Parkison’s to autoimmune conditions, from Chronic Fatigue to YJFC (you’re just f’n crazy) until we identified the truth. Opportunistic mycotoxins decided to move into their bodies and replicate, colonize, and severely compromise nearly every systemic function after they were exposed to mold.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not suggesting every degenerative disease diagnosis is wrong. Clearly this is a subset of those diagnosed, but in the medical system that abounds today, “diagnose and medicate” often leads to a quick assumption rather than a deep exploration.
I live in South Florida. I’d estimate near 80% of homes have indoor environments where mold spore counts far exceed “outside air.” When we consider the volume of homes that suffered water damage that was repaired cosmetically without assessment of the likelihood of a mold breeding ground, it leaves us with three important points worth considering.
From that point of consideration, I’d suggest the following.
If you have new or worsening respiratory, nervous system, hormonal, symptoms, or you’re uncharacteristically weak, tired, forgetful, and irritable, and if you were recently in a damp building or humid environment, reach out. I’ll offer you a few strategies for determining whether it’s worth traveling down this road of identification (of the source) and recovery.
The bad news is, untreated, mold toxicity is truly debilitating and can ruin lives. The good news, when identified and treated, it’s fully reversible. I understand. I’ve been there. And I’ve returned, better than ever!
I’ll certainly provide far more on this topic in days and months to come. For now, realize, your ability to become your best self relies greatly upon your willingness to accept your own power, and I’m here to help you discover it any time you’re ready!
